Dr Marc Martineau of the Exmouth Chiropractic Clinic and Family Chiropractic clinic, Exeter was awarded the ‘Patient Partnership Quality Mark’ (PPQM) last week by The College of Chiropractors.
The PPQM award was launched in 2006 by the College of Chiropractors to recognise excellence in meeting the expectations patients have about their chiropractic care.

Mike is also a graduate of the Anglo-European College of Chiropractic, as are both our other Chiropractors.
Mike first became interested in Chiropractic when he was treated for one (of many) rugby injuries. Mike says
"I remember this new guy at our rugby club, who everyone had been raving about, so I went to see him. I wondered why he was looking at my back and neck when it was my knee that hurt, but I went along with it, and when I got off the bench, I couldn't believe it; I felt great! Of course, I understand the science behind Chiropractic these days and can apply it myself and there's nothing better than passing on that feeling to my patients."
Mike is a keen rugby player, his biggest achievements being winning the County Championship Shield at Twickenham with Dorset & Wiltshire in 2010 and winning the Southern Counties league title with Oakmeadians in the 2008-9 season. He has strong links with local rugby clubs and can often be found running around a cold, wet pitch on Saturday afternoons!
His main interest is sports injuries - "I can really relate to athletes who just want to play again" - but Mike also enjoys treating patients young and old, using a simple philosophy: find the problem and fix it. Mike is experienced in treating back pain, neck pain, sports injuries, headaches and joint and muscle pain already, and according to him, "the exciting part is getting started and playing my role within such a successful practice!"

CLINIC CELEBRATES HALF A CENTURY OF CHIROPRACTIC CARE!

Fifty years ago in October 1961, a young Canadian chiropractor arrived to set up practice in Exeter. Having graduated in Toronto, Dr Yvan Martineau and his British wife, Susan, had decided to live and work in Devon. At that time, there were only a handful of chiropractors in the UK but their basic theory that misaligned vertebra could squeeze nerves, resulting in pain or malfunction in almost any part of the body, and that this misalignment could be manually corrected – that made sense to people and the word soon got around.
The following year, just as the practice was getting better known, Devon was blanketed in snow for several weeks, the Police warned people to stay home unless journeys were essential - and the young chiropractor sat twiddling his thumbs in his new office. However, with the spring thaw, the trickle of chiropractic patients became a steady flow and the practice soon moved to larger premises at 1 Fairpark Road, Exeter.
In the mid-80s, Yvan’s son Marc graduated from the Anglo-European Chiropractic College and joined the practice. A few years later he decided that Exmouth deserved its own Chiropractic Clinic.
After a trial period at premises on Exeter Road, he and his wife Alison bought 53 Imperial Road and later acquired the next door property. Alison qualified as a Pilates instructor and gives classes on the upper floor of the combined building; their associate, Anna-Marie, provides massage therapy in downstairs consulting rooms; and Marc commutes between the Exeter and Exmouth clinics following the tradition started by his father half a century ago.
