ACUPUNCTURE NOW AT OUR EXMOUTH CLINIC
We are pleased to Welcome

VAL DAVIS, B.Sc., Lic.Ac.
(Member of the British Acupuncture Council)

who is bringing
TRADITIONAL ACUPUNCTURE
to our Exmouth Clinic

Val says.....

"I am very excited about joining the team at Dr. Martineau’s Chiropractic Clinic.

I have been a therapist for more than 20 years and have practised Acupuncture for the last 10 years in East Devon. As well as being at the Exmouth practice every Tuesday, I also work in Sidmouth and Axminster. Before being a therapist I worked as a psychiatric nurse for several years.

Acupuncture is a system of healing which has been in continuous use in China and the East for thousands of years. It is very effective for such conditions as arthritis, back pain, sciatica, hormonal irregularities, digestive and circulatory problems as well as emotional health problems. Some people have acupuncture to strengthen their constitution and immune system or just to help them feel better in themselves.

I have specialist training in the use of acupuncture for addictions such as smoking; pregnancy management, childbirth and fertility issues. I also practice Facial Revitalisation Acupuncture (FRA) which is relatively new to the UK. If you would like to discuss having treatment or make an appointment please either contact the clinic or ring me direct on (01395) 578050.

WORLD SPINE DAY 16TH OCTOBER 2007

Our spines are a remarkable combination of bones, Ligaments , tendons and muscles that are incredibly strong, protecting our nerve roots and spinal cords. Most of us take our backs and spines for granted until something goes wrong.
Back pain is as common as the cold with eight out of ten adults experiencing acute pain in their lifetime. It is the second most common reason for missed workdays .

Back pain comes from many causes . It can be a direct result of a fall or injury. be brought on by heavy or awkward lifting or by nerves being pressed on and is common in conditions such as arthritis

Poor posture is a common trigger along with activities such as housework, DIY, gardening , sleeping, or sitting at a computer for extended periods of time.

However you don’t need to take back pain lying down! Stay active! and continue with normal activities as far as possible

chiropractic care can hasten your recovery and prevent further problems.

You can also help prevent back pain by looking after your spine and general health.

Get Exercise and keep your back muscles strong and supple
Have good Posture
Sleep on a bed with a firm mattress.
Lift sensibly and correctly
Lose Weight – as being overweight can put extra stress on your back
Visit your chiropractor as you would your dentist

and
above all
Be ‘back aware
this ‘world spine day’
and everyday !

Why not come along to our complimentary talk on the 16th ( see our H.E.A.L Article and find out more.

Proper spinal mechanics is not about backache, it is about health.

The spine contains the central nervous system, which controls every function within our body. Our health affects everything we do and everyone we know, it’s our most valuable possession.

Would you like to find out more? Then speak to our receptionists on 01395 222656 about booking your place for our next free talk.

Why not bring a friend along? All attendees of the talks who are new to Chiropractic care or their immediate relatives can also book a complimentary spinal check.

Our next talk dates will be confirmed shortly and will include more information about Chiropractic care, Spinal Rehabilitation and Massage and will feature a demonstration of our

'STRAIGHTEN UP' program. A three minute exercise regime for all ages, designed to help strengthen the spine and improve posture, divided into three quick and easy sessions.
The steps are simple, fun, can be enjoyed by both adults & kids alike and can be done on a daily as basis as part of an everyday routine.

We look forward to seeing you!

Are you drinking enough water?
Not drinking enough water can lead to tiredness, headaches and poor concentration. Although many people now have healthier diets, another equally vital nutritional need is often overlooked. Water is essential for the proper functioning of our bodies and brains, yet most of us aren't getting anywhere near enough.

Although there is no official UK recommended daily water intake, according to American guidelines

Children aged
1 to 3 should drink 0.9 litres per day;
4 to 8 year-olds should drink 1.2 litres;
9 to 13-year-old girls, 1.6 litres (boys, 1.8 litres)
14 to 18-year-old girls, 1.8 litres (boys 2.6 litres).
A survey by the Expert Group on Hydration, a think tank of health experts however, suggests that 40 per cent of British children are drinking far less

Adults should drink an average of 2 litres per day.

Dehydration can have a huge effect on children’s health, as they have a higher percentage of body water and lose water faster than adults which means they need to drink proportionally more to replace it

Symptoms of mild dehydration include light-headedness, dizziness, headaches and tiredness, as well as reduced alertness and ability to concentrate.

Drinking water often has an immediate, alerting and revitalising effect, without fluids, the dehydration continues.

Short-term symptoms include irritability, stomachache, a dry cough and an increased risk of dental disease. In the longer term, dehydration can lead to kidney and urinary tract infections.

When water intake is improved, the results can be dramatic. Fewer headaches a reduction in lethargy, and improved concentration levels.

Ensure you and your family have drinking water at all times. It really is a basic human need!
