Exe Pilates
We now have additional Pilates classes starting at the Exmouth Chiropractic Clinic
53 Imperial Road, Exmouth ( opposite the Swimiming pool car park)
This will be for beginners and consist of a block if 5 or 6 classes. The first class will be up to an hour and a half long. It will consist of an explanation of core stability, the 8 principles of Pilates, and then a lesson on the core muscles, neutral alignment of the spine and the shoulder girdle. The following classes will be based on fundamental Pilates and over a period of time you should gain knowledge of the moves and be able to challenge yourself with the more demanding levels. On completion of this beginner's course and on achieving a solid understanding of the Pilates principles, an intermediate class will then be offered.
The lessons will cost £7.00 and a block of classes must be booked and paid for in advance ( dates as detailed below ). There will be a maximum of 6 people in a class, to enhance individual tutor attention. Classes will be on a first come first served basis and there will be no 'drop ins' allowed to join the class. If you miss the first class and are keen to join the rest of the course, it maybe possible to arrange a 1 to 1 session in order to catch up. (If cancellations are made in time you may be able to join in with another class that week)
It is essential that anyone joining these classes are in good health and any concerns made known before beginning. Once you have signed up for the classes a simple health screening and fitness assessment form will need to be completed.
Complimentary spinal checks are available for any clients who have not had chiropractic care

More information regarding Pilates is given below -
What is Pilates?
Pilates is an increasingly popular, complete method of exercise designed to strengthen, lengthen, tone and elongate the body, as well as helping to restore the body to balance. It focuses on building and strengthening your body’s core (back, abdominal and pelvic muscles) and improving posture.
How does it work?
Through continued dedication, movements can be easily mastered. Regular practice builds a strong, long, and lean body, using deep abdominal muscles. Pilates movements also reduce stress and tension, increase energy, improve circulation and range of motion, and strengthen the spine, improving flexibility, which promotes back health and recovery from injury. Pilates matwork emphasises that there really is no need to exercise full speed ahead and possibly cause injury to your body. A good work out does not have to leave you exhausted and sore.
Using a series of low repetition, low impact, stretching and conditioning exercises Pilates allows you to tone up and develop your muscles without adding bulk, while simultaneously increasing your flexibility. It is so effective in fact that – within a short space of time - you will become aware of muscles you never even knew you had to begin with!
By developing proper techniques you can retrain your body to move in safer, more efficient patterns of movement, essential for good posture, peak performance, injury recovery and optimal health.
Who is it for?
Pilates is suitable for everyone, regardless of age, fitness level or gender, where each student can progress at his or her own rate. Because of the way Pilates is practiced it doesn't matter if you have a disability, a particular weakness such as unable to kneel or rest on your wrists,or even not able to get onto the floor, there will always be an alternative exercise to benefit the targeted area.
What are the benefits of Pilates?
Greater muscle strength and endurance
Improved mobility and flexibility along with better posture and movement
Aid relaxation and reduce stress
Improved lung function and circulation
Marked improvement in function and efficiency of pelvic floor
Fewer injuries and improvement in back pain
